Katie Barnett was named the head coach of the men's and women's volleyball programs in the summer of 2022.
The 2024 men’s volleyball campaign included the program’s highest win total of five and the ability to hang in matches against tough MAC opponents. The squad made a jump in year two showing an increase kills, digs and service aces while errors per set dropped.
Outside Hitter Charles Casas ranked in the Top 5 in the MAC Commonwealth in kills per set, points per set and attacks per set.
The 2023 women’s season saw a 9-20, 4-9 mark that was the best since the fall of 2018. The squad ranked third in the conference at the service line as four individuals obtained 40 service aces or more.
Ann Ofoegbu totaled over 300 kills good enough for an All-MAC Commonwealth Honorable Mention selection.
Barnett led the Student Athlete Athletic Counsel (SAAC) over during her first two years at Hood connecting students with opportunities to help out in the community and create the best environment for student-athlete voices. SAAC has taken part in activities such Free-Throw-A-Thon, writing to the Frederick Health Hospital workers, and student-athlete engagement events. The most notable being the annual Hoodies celebration where SAAC puts together a celebration of all student-athletes and a recap of the academic year.
In her first season on the women's sideline, she won eight matches. Her men's team won the inaugural match in program history and added two more victories over the course of the 2023 spring season.
Barnett arrives at Hood after spending three years as the women’s coach at Wilson College and coached both programs during the 2020 season.
In her two seasons on the court with the women’s team at Wilson, she guided the Phoenix to a pair of semifinal appearances in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. During her first season, in 2019, she led Wilson to its highest win total in four years. The Phoenix were 7-2 in conference play in 2021 for a two-year mark of 13-5 against CSAC competition. She had two All-CSAC selections in each 2019 and 2021. The women’s 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19.
In addition to her coaching duties, Barnett was the senior woman administrator and director of operations for Wilson, coordinating all aspects of game day operations for each varsity athletic program.
On the club circuit, Barnett has served as a coach for Revolution Volleyball Club, East Coast Power Volleyball, and York YMCA Volleyball Club. She is also a summer camp coach for Gold Medal Squared.
Prior to Wilson, Barnett spent time as an assistant women’s volleyball coach at Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania where the team won 25 matches in 2017 and made its first NCAA appearance since 2002, advancing to the second round.
Barnett attended the University of Tampa, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in sport management in 2016. The following year, she graduated from IUP with a Master of Science degree in sport science.
